To blurb or not to blurb...

June 26, 2017

Blurbs... or for those who are uninitiated to writing terms, the synopsis you find on the back of the book, next to covers, are the most important things when trying to sell books. Here is the truth, you could write a masterpiece of 500 pages, and yet, when you have to write a short synopsis of that masterpiece... you stare at the keyboard and wonder what happened to your creativity suddenly. It is by far, one of the hardest things as an author to do. Don't believe me? Ask one. Trust me, we all agree.

For me, in particular, this blurb business has become a bit of an annoyance. For, "The Awakening: Part One" I'm having a lot of difficulty. Sure, I already wrote one, and you can read it on the back of the book if you bought one. But it isn't all that good. It's too wordy and tells you things that you don't need to know to want to buy the book. I have re-written the blurb multiple times and am still not happy with the end result. The reason? For those who have read the book, you know that I have multiple protagonist/antagonists. So while, many books can be like, "Jack has a problem, this is Jack's problem, can Jack solve that problem?" I can't do that. I have four protagonists, and they all have different problems, and they all have one big problem, but they don't know that yet. Then there are the two Druidesses, who are also sort of protagonist/antagonists, though not so much in this book. Do you see where I'm going here? How do you write a short summary of what is essentially six different threads of stories in one?

I am going to labor over this some more, but I can't take too long. I am looking to run a printing for some more books for an event in July and I want to have this blurb done by then. So, wish me luck.

Till next time...
